Quick Wrap-up For Tenacious Toys’ Completed “Uncle Argh Noir” Kickstarter Project (@TenaciousToys)

tenacious_toys_kickstarter.jpg

We asked Tenacious Toys owner Benny Kline a few questions about his Kickstarter project, which we blogged here in the past. That project, to fund the production of an Uncle Argh Noir colorway by Scott Tolleson, received $8660 on a $7700 goal from 156 backers. It’s really nice to see the toy community get behind one of their biggest supporters and as a result, receive some collectible toys and art. Image via.

What were your expectations for this project?

Benny Kline: “Honestly I didn’t expect anything. I always hope for the best and plan for the worst. I knew that A) funding an exclusive this way is a new idea and B) I did my best to plan it out and set it up. So no matter what went down at the end, I did my best. Thankfully, we pulled it off!”

What were the biggest surprises during the (almost) two month period?

Benny Kline: “I was surprised at how many contributors were seeking out and requesting high level ($100+) rewards. In retrospect that’s not odd at all: those backers were big Tolleson fans who wanted those original pieces of art from Scott. I should have planned for that. Had to add more of those rewards during the campaign.

Another surprise: how many people backed out or decreased their pledges. In the final days it felt like I had as many cancelled pledges as I did new ones. Really had me anxious for a couple days, right when we hit our $7770 mark.”

Outside of a massive first day, what helped you get backers?

Benny Kline: “The stats tell me that Facebook generated the most incoming pledges. But it was constant promotion by Kevin Winnik, Scott Tolleson and you bloggers that kept this project fresh on people’s minds.”

What would you have done differently if you were to start this project two months from now?

Benny Kline: “I’d lower the target dollar amount and increase the higher level rewards available.”

Thanks for the answers and congrats!

“The Once and Future King” Custom 7” Munny (@HughDredRose)

Created for Tenacious Toys’ “The Candy-Coated Custom Show” at The London Candy Company Inc in New York. I completely bricked on posting those customs, but I need to start by posting my favorite. You can get more shots and info from this Kidrobot forum thread. Not surprisingly, this guy sold for $500 fairly quickly.

Tenacious Toys x Scott Tolleson’s Kickstarter Project for an Exclusive Uncle Argh Colorway

tenacious_toys_kickstarter.jpg

We’re obviously huge fans of Benny Kline and his company Tenacious Toys and it’s pretty great to see him get involved with a site we’re pretty obsessed about - Kickstarter. Their project, to create an exclusive colorway of Scott Tolleson’s Uncle Argh is 78% funded, with $6,133 put up and 26 days left. I’m fairly confident that this project will end up getting fully funded given the pacing plus Benny’s networking within the toy world. It’s pretty interesting to read what people have been saying about this project, with SpankyStokes, Toysrevil, The Blot Says, UVD, and BattleGrip all saying very positive things. Plastic and Plush promoted Benny’s project too, but had concerns with some elements.

Overall, if you want to support Tenacious Toys, have the cash, and want Scott Tolleson’s figure with pretty low if not insanely low shipping - it’s a great deal. If you are in the market for a custom 5” Mini Qee from Tolleson there are two still available at the $500 level and for less money, sketches and original paintings by the artist. To learn a lot more about Benny Kline and Tenacious Toys, we have a three part interview with Benny and wife Stephanie Philips that is well worth reading. Image via.

“Misfit Monsters” Custom 3” Dunny Series by UNCLE for Tenacious Toys

From left to right: “Fil,” “Kyng,” “Slick,” “Gimlet,” “Bully,” and “Glue.” This series will be available for purchase soon on Tenacious Toys. We reviewed a custom from UNCLE recently and I can say that his work is quite charming. It’s very cool to see Tenacious Toys becoming the primary place on the internet to purchase custom toys, using their popularity to help lesser known artists find a larger audience.
