From the artist:
What’s the Corrupter Project?
The Corrupter is a concept I’ve been working on for a couple years. I’ve thought long and hard about creating an art toy of my own and to make something more accessible and available than my one of a kind works. I wanted to create something dynamic, something that would stand out from the pack, but also feel right at home in people’s collections. Something people would consider a sculpture/art toy in its own right. I sat on my design for a year, let it grow and evolve as I grew and evolved as an artist. I also learned how to effectively create molds and cast figures in resin, so this isn’t my first rodeo. I am very much a DIY guy. I came into being a full-time artist with little to no nest egg and just had to figure it out and share my vision. I’ve never had any real backing, and pretty much fought everyday to make my passion my lively hood. I wanted to approach this project in a similar way, I could have scraped up some money, paid a factory to handle most the work and just distribute my pieces. And I’m sure someday, that might make sense to me. But for this project, I want to craft each piece, and when I sign and number the bottom of each figure, I’m letting collectors know I made that figure just for them.
What’s the story of the Corrupter?
The storyline of the Corrupter is that he is a powerful mage that can manipulate the very core of a creature’s spirit, transforming them into a twisted servant to do his bidding. In this version of the Corrupter, he has turned this poor critter into a “fungal fiend”. The main attribute of a fungal fiend is that it sprouts a series of glowing mushrooms that bare spores, these spores will spread and infect others with his tainted spirit. Those touched by the spores quickly transform them into fungal fiends as well. In no time at all, The Corrupter will have an entire army of fungal minions at his finger tips.
Why Kickstarter?
The reason for doing this through kickstarter is that the toy art community is just that, a community; and a very special one at that. I want people to feel like they are part of this, that they are bringing this creation to life as much as I am. If it’s successfully funded, its because each contributor believed in it, and to me that is so much more powerful than simply selling a generic, mass produced figure.
What do I get for pledging?
Well, that all depends on what you pledge, but basically the main point of the pledge is to serve as a preorder for the figure. I have also worked with some friends on producing a limited edition Corrupter t-shirt design, a DIY edition for my customizer commrades, a custom commissioned version for collectors, and if that’s not enough for you, I’m also offering a a “Horde Package” for those that are totally in love with the design and maybe want to share some extra fungal fiends to their friends! :) The Corrupter stands about 6.5” tall and will be cast in solid resin, so he’s gonna have some heft to him!
You’ll be reading more about fplus, his work, and this project in the coming weeks. We just wrapped up an interview with the man himself and that should hit the internet in the next week or two. Now that this talented artist’s project is nearing 100% you can be pretty confident it will get full funding and these painted sculptures will be created. The big question is - Will you have one on your shelf? For $100, you can place your pre-order now and get in before the deadline is reached! Congrats to fplus for putting together a fantastic sculpture, and the painted shots are absolutely killer. This should easily end up as one of the most successful art toy Kickstarters and given the artist’s customs are substantially more expensive, this is any fan’s best shot at owning a work of art from fplus. Back this project now!
